High quality matcha

Great taste and texture, and a gorgeous bright green color. Exactly what you hope for in a high quality matcha. No chalkiness, gritty texture, or weird taste. Just good matcha!

My first matcha experience - and I’m already hooked

I honestly don’t know much about matcha. My tea of choice is usually pu-erh - that’s where I could talk for hours. So this was my very first experience trying matcha. To be honest, I accidentally ordered two bags about 10 days ago, and at first I was pretty upset because I only wanted to buy one just to try it. Well… 10 days later, my first bag is already almost gone. Excellent matcha! Smooth taste, very enjoyable, and clearly something I’ll keep drinking. Definitely glad I ended up ordering two bags after all!

It is subtle, and I love the color of this one.

I would buy again. I hope you get more reviews of this one.

Pretty good, but take it slow if you're new to matcha

I've never been a tea drinker, so the terms I will use here are far more pedestrian than you may be used to. It is actually quite easy to make, but make sure to follow the instructions closely. In fact, you might dilute it a bit more to start. The green powder was soft and bright. I figured I should start my tea journey with a better quality tea. It blended easily into the water with no residue. The final taste was more rich than I expected. I want to say it was a thicker, almost spinach-y, flavor in warm water. There was a little bitter bite at the end, but that could've been my fault for using too-hot water at first. I then tried a tip I'd heard: sweetened condensed milk. That became like green tea training wheels. For Ceremonial matcha, this is a fair value. My ultimate advice for newbies would be to start slow/diluted and with sweetened milk. You may not get as much energy boost, but it'll ease your palate into it.

Outstanding Price/Quality

It took a few days to work out the flavor profile of the Daily Ritual Ceremonial after enjoying the Gekkou because every Match is unique. This makes the journey so incredibly interesting. Who would want to drink the same red wine every week of their life? It's the same with Matcha. The Daily Ritual Ceremonial powder has a slightly lighter color than that of the Gekkou. It also seems easier to pre-mix into a smooth paste before adding more hot water. My conclusion is this Matcha provides great value and quality newcomers to Matcha, and it can also be a go-to daily Matcha for those with more experience who just fancy a change. It's absolutely miles better than much that's available elsewhere on-line. So, thank you once again Origin Uji and to the people who work the fields to bring us this incredible experience.

tastes good

This is a very nice tea from Japan. It is bright green powder. it smells nice and fresh. It is easy to prepare and it tastes very good. Fresh and bright and very enjoyable. It can be used in recipes, too, of course, but it is really good and maybe too good to bake or cook with it, really. It comes in a pouch . It is expensive but it is worth the price

Smoothest matcha ever

Just to be clear, this is a ground tea powder. So it's not a tea concentrate or anything. You'll want to drink it just after mixing.

Okay, got that out of the way.

This matcha brand in general is amazing.

You try to sift it, but there's nothing to sift. the bright green powder just falls right through your colander.

When you mix it, it takes almost no effort to mix evenly. It mixes so smoothly and easily and evenly you'd think it was kool aid.

The taste, of course, is nothing like kool aid. Rather than just the tea itself, there's a hint of umami that just makes this tea's flavor. Sure, you can cream and mix sugar in, heck it even suggests it on the bag to make matcha lattes, but why introduce the distraction? Some teas don't need it, and this is one such example.

There's a few local tea rooms where I'm at that have a pretty wide variety. Over time you learn which types of teas want cream or sugar, and for which sugar is a distraction. This tea is definitely the latter. Enjoy it on its own. You won't regret it. It's not bitter at all if your water is at the right heat.

Now, as a tip: You're not really supposed to use boiling water with green tea as it can make it taste bitter. However, the kettle beat me to taking it off the heat. I simply added a little cold water and used a meat thermometer to check. It brought it to just under boiling, but not hot enough to make the tea taste grassy.

Nice matcha

I'm not a matcha expert enough to tell you by taste or texture if this was stone ground in micro or macro lots but I can tell you this is good tasting matcha. I like the green, it's solid without being neon green. It whisks up well to make a wonderful tea or latte. The quantity in the bag is generous and the bag reseals easily for storage. I'm really enjoying this!

High-Quality Matcha

Strong impression right away with its bright color and smooth, fine texture. It blends easily and has a clean, fresh character that feels higher quality than the usual everyday options. The overall presentation and consistency stand out, and it fits well as a daily ceremonial‑style matcha. The price seems a little high for the amount received.

Expensive but good.

I am not a matcha expert. I had a matcha latte at a coffee house - the wife and I ordered one we then shared at a coffee house as we saw it on the menu and wondered what it was - and we liked it. We have a frother at home for milk and we tried to use it to make matcha lattes right in there and it works for us. We usually use a matcha powder that comes by the pound, is organic and the pound cost what this goes at for 40 grams, that makes this 11x more expensive. And the 1# powder is not bad, not bad at all. Sometimes we buy a "special", different powder like this to see what it does. We expect it to be noticeably different - or we wouldn't need to use a different powder from our regular one and we are happy with the regular one. What we usually do when we buy something like this is we make 2 cups and we share, one with the regular powder we usually use and one with the "special", expensive one, then we share/swap and ask "what do you think?". Kind of a couple group activity. This tastes noticeably different and pleasant. I/we can't really judge if a price of more than 10x is justified - my wife actually has a more evolved sense of smell than I do, she can smell things at a level that I can not - she demonstrated that many times over, I assume therefore she can taste things better than I do as well. We are both happy - though we keep this for special occasions, we will not replace our daily regular powder, that has it's place as well.

Excellent, Fresh Smooth Daily Uji Matcha That Stands Out!

I was so happily surprised by the quality of this matcha! I was expecting something acceptable but not a special small-batch one like this. Myself, due to arthritis, I must keep things very simple for the process: Just add half a cup of about 80 degree C water to a small bowl and whisk in half a teaspoon quickly. The idea is to get the nutritional and health benefits of the tea leaf daily, not do a ritual. Im excited about this brand because the taste is fine, not bitter, but creamy sweet (to me). That means I dont disguise it within other drinks or add milk. Its perfect in its simplest form!

Fresh aroma, pleasant smooth taste

My favorite feature of this matcha powder is its fresh and delightful aroma. The moment I scooped a portion out of the matcha package I was wowed with the freshness of its aroma. The aroma spread out around my table, so I enjoyed it while sipping the matcha beverage. The beverage was easy to prepare. I added a half of a teaspoon of the matcha powder to 3 oz of hot water (slightly past a freshly boiled temperature - as recommended by the instructions on the package), then whisked it in to obtain bubbles. The bright green beverage had a mild, smooth taste with a tad of tartness - similar to that of green tea. I liked the beverage even better with a splash of oat milk. The taste became smoother and richer. Overall, great quality matcha powder!

Still very good, but I like the Master Reserve blend better...

Not going to lie, I tried their Masters Reserve blend (black package) that retails for $27/30g (90¢/g) and I absolutely loved it!

When I came across this blend by the same brand (Origin Uji) for only $25/40g (62.5¢/g), I just had to try it to see if there were any major differences, and there are! But before I go on, let me tell you how I brew mine first. I use distilled water heated to 175°F and my ratio is 1g of matcha powder to 1oz of liquid.

From a texture perspective, there is little difference. Both are very smooth with low astringency. This Daily Ritual blend may be ever so slightly more creamy than the Masters Reserve blend. Flavor-wise, there were also a lot of similarities. Both are buttery with deep umami flavors front and center with a natural sweetness in every sip, and both are fresh, vibrant, and balanced with a clean finish (no harsh or grassy after tones.) However, I do find that I like the Master Reserve blend more. I can't express what it is, but the flavor profile is slightly different. I can't explain it, it just is.

But that doesn't take anything away from this Daily Ritual blend, it's still very good and way better than what I used to drink prior to discovering Origin Uji, and this blend provides some bang for your buck being about 30% cheaper. As the blend suggests, I think this is still a great ceremonial grade matcha ideal for every day drinking or as your "Daily Ritual". If there are levels within Ceremonial Grade Matcha, I'd peg this as the entry level and the Masters Reserve blend by Origin Uji as top tier.

I did go into a little more detail on what Ceremonial grade matcha is in my other review, so I won't duplicate efforts here. But feel free to read my review on the Masters Reserve blend.

A Perfect Cup of Matcha Tea

A flavorful and rich cup of green tea. The tea is precisely ground. The texture is very fine. I sifted as required for the ritual, and found no lumps or coarse grinds. On adding hot water, I whisked to froth for a demitasse cup. The color is a rich and attractive, vibrant green.

The tea is smooth and flavorful with the pleasant aroma of fresh tea. Preparing 4 ounces of water per 1/2 tsp, there is no bitterness, grittiness on the tongue, nor any unpleasant after taste.

I found the preparation easy and relatively quick.

I served cups twice more, and enjoyed the tea myself. This is a high quality product that I can recommend to Matcha lovers or to those who want to try it for themselves.

At this price point, I feel this is a good value.

milder taste and smooth texture

Milder taste and smooth texture. Wondering if this being a First Harvest quality has something to do with its milder flavor. The other one we have from the same brand has a stronger flavor. This First Harvest matcha tastes very good with cream and some sugar or sweetener. My daughter whisked this with her bamboo whisk for awhile to mix its powder to very fine & smooth texture. At 1st, it tends to clump but, once mixed in with mildly-hot water and cream, it looks like velvety liquid. Appreciate the info on where this Japanese matcha was grown & harvested and how.

Smooth and mellow flavor that blended up beautifully!

This was my first experience with matcha and I was thoroughly impressed. I am not usually big on green tea so was not sure what to expect, but I found this to be much less bitter than most green tea out there. I made this into a latte style drink with hot soy milk, which I feel probably really helped to round out the edges.

This is a fine powder that blended up surprisingly smoothly and I had no chunkiness or grittiness whatsoever after preparing. It was even a very bright minty, attractive looking color for a green drink and had a slightly thick texture for a tea. The flavor was much mellower and less 'grassy' than I had expected it to be. I will absolutely enjoy this bag and will look forward to possibly trying other varieties in the future.

for the current price of just under $25 for 20-40 servings (depending on the strength you prefer), this seems to be pretty on par for value compared to other similar products.

Delicious matcha

This matcha looks the right shade of intense green I'd expect, especially at this price point. It whisks up properly, and results in a smooth, grassy, slightly bitter matcha tea.

Really delicious!

This powder is hands down the best ceremonial-grade matcha I’ve tried. It mixes instantly with no clumps, tastes smooth and naturally smooth (no bitterness), and you can tell the quality is top-tier from the color and freshness. It feels like true ceremonial grade — clean energy, great flavor, and a premium experience every sip. Highly recommend!
