Honoka – Light Roast Uji Hojicha Powder

Soft, golden, and quietly warming — Honoka is our light-roast hojicha, milled to a fine powder. Where a dark roast goes bold, Honoka keeps its restraint: a gentle toast that leaves the tea's green heart intact. The name means a faint glow, and that's exactly the experience — warmth without weight.

Roasted just enough to coax out honey and toasted chestnut while preserving a delicate, grassy sweetness underneath. The result is an approachable, low-caffeine cup that's as easy in the evening as it is in the morning — smooth, softly sweet, and never sharp.

Crafted by Hiroshi, our Judan Chashi — a Level 10 tea master, the only one of his rank in Kyoto — whose family has grown tea in the Uji region since 1827.

Hiroshi takes no shortcuts. From leaf to roast to fine powder, every step is done to his standard, resulting in a light roast of remarkable balance and clarity.

Whisked: Whisk 1–2 tsp with 3–4 oz hot water. Unlike matcha, hojicha takes hotter water gracefully — around 185°F is ideal, as roasting mellows any astringency.
Latte: Whisk 1–2 tsp into a splash of hot water, then top with steamed milk for a naturally sweet, caffeine-light latte.
Culinary: Fold into baked goods, ice cream, or whipped cream for a toasty depth.

Hojicha is Japanese green tea that's been roasted, transforming its fresh, vegetal character into something warm, toasty, and rounded. The roast also breaks down much of the tea's caffeine, making hojicha one of the gentlest teas in the Japanese tradition.

As a powder, Honoka gives you the whole leaf in every cup — whisked like matcha, blended into lattes, or baked into your favorite recipes.

Because roasting reduces caffeine, Honoka is naturally low in caffeine — a cup you can enjoy in the evening, or share with the whole household.
